
What Causes Irritation In Infant After Hep A Vaccination?

Question: Hi Doctor,
Yesterday morning we had vaccination of Hepatitis A for my son, he is 1 year old.
From today morning he is little uneasy like crying and not eating as he does regularly.
He eat little and played sometime but otherwise he looks somewhat cranky.
Please let me know is this normal.

WELCOME TO THE HCM,
Hepatitis A Vaccine is not known to cause such effects.
But any thing mild can happen to any human being with any vaccine.
It may be coincidental that he might be developing some viral infection causing such irritability and crankiness.
This can be overcome by giving some antipyretic like paracetamol in 4 hourly doses. Hope the Symptoms should be relive in day or two
Please check the site of injection if some swelling or redness is there kindly review it with your pediatrician.
