What Causes Irritation In The Urethra After Catheterization?

Question: My granddaughter is 2 yrs old, she had a UTI recently. She was given 5 days of antibiotic, follow-up test showed no infection but her symptoms are back. Visit to urgent care yesterday showed no infection, no fever but she still doesn't drink enough fluids and shows discomfort when urinating. While at urgent care they did use a catheter to drain urine. She is consuming less than 8 oz of fluid in 24 hrs. What should we do? We live in a remote area at least 2 hrs from a hospital.
Brief Answer:
UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
It is likely that the catheterization caused irritation in the urethra and that is the root of the pain. This can take 1-2 weeks to resolve. in the meantime, push the fluids. This is vital. I know she is not taking them now. Keep encouraging her.
