Brief Answer:
? Tinea/? Eczema

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand that you had itching on both the thighs and have now noticed bruising.

Itching on the thighs could occur due to several causes including fungal infection, eczema, xerosis, drug allergies, etc.

Could you give me a few more details so that I can assess better?

1. For how long have you had the itching? (days/months)
2. Did you have any rash associated with itching?
3. Are you on any other medications ,e.g.- for hypothyroidism / elevated cholesterol, heart ailments, etc
4. Is the itching on the front of the thighs or between the groin folds?
5. Do you have associated dry skin?

Brief Answer:
Xerotic eczema

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the clarifications.
I have seen the attached clinical picture.

It seems like an ill defined bruise which could occur due to vigorous rubbing/ itching. The itching, in the first place could be due to dryness and associated hypothyroidism( I see that you are on levothyroxine supplement for that).

The other possibility is a condition called as "auto erythrocytic purpura", commonly called as devil's pinches. They appear as slightly painful bruises on the thighs and arms of middle aged women who are slightly obese. They are harmless and usually disappear on their own. They could recur every now and then.

I would suggest you to use a good moisturizer twice a day routinely. Apply it within 3 minutes after bath to trap the moisture in. You could use a colloidal oatmeal based moisturizer like Aveeno.

Since you are already taking an antihistamine (Cetrizine 10 mg), you could increase the dosage to 10 mg twice a day so that you have relief from itching through out the day.

You could use a mild steroid cream like hydrocortisone cream twice a day on the itchy areas. Use this after applying the moisturizer. Use it for 10-15 days.

Hope this helps you.

If you have any more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Wishing you good health,
Dr. Johny Chacko
