What Causes Itching And Irritation In The Eyes?

Question: Hi,

I work for IT firm Deloitte and as a part of my job, I need to keep staring at my laptop screen for more than half the day.

I get irritation and itching in my eyes. Let me know if using ciplox eye drops is safe in this situation.

Hello XXXX, Welcome to HCM,

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Ciplox is antibiotic(Ciprofloxacin) containing eye-drop and only recommended in case of infections i.e. conjunctivitis etc. after a clinical eye check-up by an Ophthalmologist..

I'd suggest you to apply Eye drop Refresh Tears 2 drops in both eyes 6th hrly for next 7 days and observe for at least next 2-3 days....

Since you have to stay in front of laptop screen most of the time, keep splashing/sprinkling water over eyes after every 1-2 hrs.. avoid direct exposure to A.C. duct's air.. Don't wash eyes in running tap water and splash and rinse them only with mineral/ R.O. purified water..

You can also try using anti-glare spectacles for eye protection for this purpose..
Take break of 5-10 minutes in between every 2-3 hrs of prolonged sitting and try to walk around out of your desk , practice blinking more often specially when staring for long duration in front of the laptop..

If despite following all these there's no significant improvement within next 2-3 days, I'd advice to go for a thorough eye check-up as well as consideration for any antibiotic eye drops..
