What Causes Itching In Skin Folds Around The Neck?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jun 2014
Question: I have itching around my neck. The itching started about 1 week back after i sweated a lot around neck and the area remained wet for some time. Since then I have been trying to keep the area as much dry as possible by using dusting powder - Abzorb. However I still sweat a bit and sometimes the area becomes wet. I have been applying Onabet ointment every night. But the itching has not gone. What should I do.

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
You might have developed fungal infection.
The area of skin folds like around neck is very moist and is prone to develop these infections.
Sweating makes the skin soft and enhance the colonization of fungus.
Treatment can be with oral antifungals as well as with topical antifungals.
I usually prescribe clotrimazole dusting powder to my patients, they get excellent response with it.
These can help reduce the moisture as well as control the infection.
If possible upload a photograph of the area involved.

Thanks for your response. Like I mentioned in my earlier query, I am already using Abzorb which is Clorimazole dusting powder, to keep the area dry. I am also using Onabet Ointment which has Sertaconazole Nitrate 2% every night. There is no redness or rashes in the area. Only a bit dry. I am unable to send a photo of the infected area. Hence giving you the maximum discription of the infection. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
apply hydrocortisone

Detailed Answer:
Hello
If there is no rash it cannot be fungal infection.
Stop applying sertaconazole. Instead of that apply hydrocortisone ointment.
You can continue using powder in day.
This will give you early relief.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you
