What Causes Itching On The Face And Scalp After Taking Valtrex?
Question: Just been diagnosed with first ever herpes by side of mouth and prescribed Valtrex 4gm over two days and then 1000 every 24 hours. Seem to be a little itchy on face and scalp? Is this an allergic reaction to medication or herpes
Brief Answer:
Allergy to medication
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Healthcaremagic.
You said the lesions are at the angle of the mouth then itching should not be on the face and scalp.
Do you have any lesions on the face or scalp?
after itching do you have any rashes? If so please upload the picture of the rash.
If itching is too much or if you have any other symptoms you could hold acyclovir for a day and see if the symptoms improve.
Please apply calamine lotion wherever it is itching.
Hope this helps
Best wishes

Nothing else anywhere else. Just on side of mouth they are scabbed over. This outbreak happened after getting juvaderm injection in lips. Never had an out break before.
Brief Answer:
Ok
Detailed Answer:
Hello again, if you don't have any lesions anywhere else but itching is persistent it could be allergy due to the medication.
If it continues for a long time then please stop the medication for one day and see how the symptoms are .
If the symptoms recede revert back to.the doc who started the acyclovir as your dose may need to be modified.
