What Causes Itching Sensation In The Eyes When Diagnosed With Strep Throat?

Question: My son was diagnosed with strep throat 2 days ago. We only found out because I took him to his pediatrician to check on a scrapped knee that looked infected (it was not) but wasn't healing after almost 3 weeks. He then complained about a sore throat while in the office. Soon enough he tested positive for strep. Other than a a very mild sore throat he only complained about itching ears and no other symptoms. His doc prescribed amoxicillin every 12 hours. After the 3rd dose he started to developed itchy eyes and limbs every time he ate anything (he does have a food allergy to walnuts only). Called his doctor and he told me to stop with the antibiotics and give my so.ln Benadryl. . He then prescribed Azithromycin. First dose will be tomorrow. My son still have itchy eyes, ears and limbs every now and then. He says it happens for one minute (he takes his clothes off when it happens) and then it goes away. He is 8 years old. Am I missing something here? Never experienced anything like it before. It's the first time he has strep too.
Brief Answer:
Gurgling with lukewarm water should help
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Strep throat is pretty common in children. I would not worry about the itchiness. Benadryl should take care of it. Besides, your doctor has already changed the antibiotic. So, there should not be anything to worry. I do not think that you are missing anything.
Gurgling with lukewarm water should help.
