Brief Answer:
Granulomatous reaction to tattoo inks
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query and I have noted down your concern.
I will keep a possibility of granulomatous reaction to tattoo ink particles which can develop years after the tattoo was done. Most commonly it happens to red color in tattoo i.e cinnabar (mercuric sulphide) but it can also happen to blue (cobalt) or black (carbon) pigment particles as well.
I request you to kindly upload an image so that i am able to guide you better. You may upload an Image either at "Reports Section" Or You may mail me at YYYY@YYYY with the subject line as Attention:Dr:Kakkar.

Brief Answer:
Reaction to tattoo ink; Otral and topical steroids are required
Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thank you.
It is a foreign body reaction to tattoo ink. I can see swollen, red, excoriated and red areas within the tattoo.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest topical as well as Oral steroids to control this reaction.
Topical polysporin will do nothing for this.
Oral prednisolone tablets in a dose of 1mg/kg/day and topical steroids creams e.g either mometasone furoate 0.1% cream Or clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream.
These are prescription medications and I suggest that you talk to your primary care physician for the needful.
In addition I also suggest an otc Oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg tablets once daily for symptomatic relief from itching.
Regards

Will I have to go as far as removal? Or will one dose of the drugs help?
Brief Answer:
Might require Laser if its recurs
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
A 2-3 week course of oral and topical steroids would settle this down. However, it keeps on recurring You may have to contemplate getting it Lasered with a pigment Laser e.g either Q switched Nd:Yag Laser Or Alexandrite Laser.
