Brief Answer:
Could be a fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

From your history and description, I would consider the possibility of you and your partner having a fungal infection. It is quite common in the genital/ buttock areas and spreads from one partner to another.

Cortisone cream will only suppress the itching temporarily but will promote the growth of fungus and hence it recurs again after stopping the cream.

You could use an antifungal cream containing 1% Clotrimazole applied twice a day for 2 -3 weeks.

You could also take an antihistamine like Benadryl at bedtime for relief from itching.

Hope this helps you.

Take care.

Dr. Johny Chacko
