default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: I used a shampoo from a hair stylists brand on 16 may 2016. I started feeling itchy on my scalp after the first wash and I stopped using it immediately. The itching persisted until yesterday. Today I saw a lot of loose hair on my forehead and then on my nose. Nothing like this ever happened with me. Please help me .what is happening to me
I have attached a picture of my scalp taken after the wash by the hair stylist. And the ingredients of the shampoo.

Brief Answer:
possibly you are allergic to one of the ingredients in the shampoo

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have also reviewed the image.

You symptoms suggests that you possibly suffered an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in the shampoo.
I suggest you to use a gentle cleansing shampoo e.g Dove shampoo.
In addition you may use topical elocon lotion for scalp application, twice daily for a week.
In addition you may also take a tablet of cetrizine 10mg once daily for symptomatic relief from itching.

The volume of my hair has decreased and I am showing more forehead from the sides and I think my hair from the front have also decreased in volume. I used loreal conditioner for a few days, about ten months ago. Does my scalp show any reason why this is happening? What should I do to get the volume back.

Brief Answer:
Minoxidil solution and oral finasteride

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

You seem to also have androgenetuc alopecia which is characterised by receding anterior hair line and decreased hair volume from the front, mid and vertex of scalp.
I suggest you to use minoxidil 10% solution e.g mintop 10 solution, 1ml, twice daily at scalp skin.
In addition i also suggest you to take a tablet of finasteride (finax) once daily.
Both these are approved remedies for androgenetic alopecia. Treatment should extend for 1-2 years and preferably life long. The goal of medical treatment is to arrest or slow down further progression of hair loss and thining

I used the elocon lotion and citrizine tablet as prescribed and now I have got pimples over my scalp and some burning sensation also. What should I do? I tried applying the same lotion again but it doesn't help much. And there is still itching over the scalp.

I applied some elocon at night and now the acne is gone however itching is there. I don't know what will happen after I wash my hair. Do I use scalpe shampoo after some other shampoo or simply use it. Do I still need to take the medicine prescribed.I think there is some irritation on the scalp.

Use only ketoconazole shampoo

Hi,

Take doxycycline, only if you have scalp acne. However, for only itching and scalp irritation use just Scalpe shampoo. Take a tablet of cetrizine, once daily for a few days.
