What Causes Itchy Skin On The Abdomen?
Question: I have very itchy skin, especially on my abdomen. Is it a rash?
Brief Answer:
probably not
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
If you do not see bumps or discoloration then it is probably not a rash.
Here are some things to try to decrease the itching
Drink plenty of water
Shower with cooler water than normal. Hot water is drying and makes itching worse
Do not use alcohol on the skin
Use lotion on the skin.
Keep the skin cool
Avoid clothing that causes a lot of rubbing on the skin.
If it does not resolve see a doctor
Let me know if you have further questions

Yes, there is discoloration It is red, like diaper rash, all the way across lower abdomen. My aunt who died of cancer had lesions, is this the way it begins?
Brief Answer:
no this is not usually the way cancer starts
Detailed Answer:
If this rash is itchy it is most likely form yeast. Try an over the counter yeast cream like lamisil (terbenifine). If it does not go away in a week or so then see your doctor.
All the above recommendations will help keep it from itching so much.
