Brief Answer:
Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

The symptoms described by you seems to be related to a condition called Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux secondary to acid reflux disease.

Do not worry! With adequate measures and appropriate medicines, this can be taken care of.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Avoid chilled food and beverages, citrus fruits, alcohol, smoking, coffee and stress.
3. Try taking proton pump inhibitors such as Omeprazole or Pantoperazole or Lansoperazole. This reduces the production of acid in the stomach.
4. Along with the above medicine you will require Domperidone, to tighten the lower esophageal sphincter.

Hope with the above measures you would get better. Revert back to me if you have any follow up queries.

Brief Answer:
Omeprazole may require replacement...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

There are various reasons for stomach upset, the commonest reasons are:
1. Omeprazole may not be beneficial in some cases. If the secretions of the stomach is resistant to the former drug, the acidity continues during the episodes of stress causing more discomfort. Hence, you may need to switch over to more potent proton pump inhibitors such as Pantoperazole or Esomeprazole. Also, a prokinetic along with the proton pump inhibitor would be more beneficial.

2, Secondly, considering your age, if you are having the stomach upset while walking or climbing stairs or doing strenuous work, then I would suggest you to consult a cardiologist to evaluate for any cardiac related conditions. Angina or partial vessel block in the heart can mimic acid peptic disease which may not get better with routine treatment for the latter condition.

Hope this clarifies your doubts. Revert back to me if you have any further queries.
