
What Causes Itchy Watery Red Eyes While On Claritin?

Question: hello my son whose 15 has itchy eyes and turns red. seems to be allergic issue as it's itchy and also watery. I have tried to give him claratin once a day for 2 days but it's still red. can u help.

usually they are more red then this.

Thanks for writing back. I have gone through the image. The redness does not seem to be due to conjunctivitis and so antibiotics would not help. It also does not seem to be due to iritis or uveitis which are concerning causes. The probabilities that remain are allergies or corneal ulcer. You may try using Ketorolac (Acular, Acuvail) an NSAID eye drop or Azelastine hydrochloride (Optivar) eye drop but these are prescription medicines. If the condition does not improve, in any case it would be a good idea to visit a doctor and get it checked.
I assume that your child does not use contact lenses.

I think the claratin is not working as I have been giving him for 4 days. can you suggest another one.

I got 120mg fexofenadine hcl. should I give him twice a day. and eye drop only this was available betamethasone and neomycin
