Brief Answer:
It can be due to bronchospasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your heavy breathing can be due to bronchospasm. This occurs due to allergy or lower respiratory infection. Taking strong coffee will give some relief. Over the counter antihistamines like benadryl may help if you have not taken antihistamines with cold medication.

If that is not helping then approach ER for corticosteroid like hydrocortisone injection and beta agonist like salbutamol inhalation.
Routine blood examination should be carried out and in case of signs of bacterial infection antibiotics will be needed also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
