What Causes Lack Of Fetal Pole And Heartbeat During 5 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Dec 2015
Question: I am 5weeks 6 days pregnant after having a frozen egg transfer.

Today I had a trans vaginal ultrasound and everything looked good apart from no fetal pole being seen. The nurse did say she thought a little mark laying flat against the wall may be it but couldn't be sure.

I'm so concerned at the lack of pole and heartbeat. Being XXXXXXX do I have cause for concern?

Brief Answer:
The fetal pole is not always seen.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

You need not be so worried at present. The fetal pole being about 1-2 mm in size at this gestational age, is difficult to be seen many times.
It also depends on the resolution of the machine. What the nurse saw is probably the fetal pole. Repeat ultrasound after a week. by then you should see both fetal pole and fetal cardiac activity.
I hope this helps.
If you further queries, I will be happy to answer.
