What Causes Left-sided Pain In Kidney Area And Extremely Dry Mouth?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Jan 2015
Question: When sleeping if I roll on my left side I develop a pain in the left kidney area. I also need to urinate very badly and at the same time I also have an extreme dry mouth. I'am not sure what wakes me up, the need to go, or the dry mouth. I don't have these symptoms if I sleep on my back or right side. l just turned 60, not overweight, don't drink alcohol or use tobacco, and otherwise am in good health. Since 1985 I have had on going problems with kidney stones, some have passed on their own, but I've had to have Lithotripsy 5 times over the last 20 years, last time about 6 years ago.

Brief Answer:
Prostate, dry mouth needs work up, likely medicine induced

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Need to urinate and age of 60 with night time waking up secondary to pain in flank is likely a distended bladder and prostate issues. A simple renal ultrasound to rule out any recurrence of renal calculi is advised.

If the sonogram is ok and there is no stone or hydroureter there, then it is prostate which causes this pain and waking up to pee.

Dry mouth is a wide array of etiologies and it could be any thing. To me it looks like medicine related if any you take to for the prostate as almost any prostate medication causes dry mouth.

It will need an extensive work up to connect the dots. A good start will be an ultrasound and urine assessment. Dry mouth can wait.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

may the odds be ever in your favour.

Regards
Khan
