Brief Answer:
It may be possible. Other cause may be low protein
Detailed Answer:
hello and welcome to HCM,
This is all indeed very unfortunate and I share your concern.
Today is 22nd in India so it is almost day 5. There are the following possibilities:
1. return of infection leading to
septicemia that is dissemination of bacteria everywhere. This leads to swelling mostly everywhere,
lethargy and fever.
2.
Anemia and
hypoproteinemia where the
hemoglobin and / or the blood proteins are low and cause swelling. They also produce lethargy.
3. Kidney problems due to infection mostly cause swelling around the face and eyelids and later everywhere along with lethargy.
4. Heart problems may be due to an underlying undiagnosed pathology or secondary to infection or drugs. These are rare.
5. Exhaustion after delivery and baby care combined with low proteins. They are quite common.
If the swelling was not there before and has come now, also if there is lethargy. please visit your doctor. Get her evaluated and check the hemogram and serum proteins. A cervical swab test is a must if infection is suspected. Get her heart auscultated and blood pressure checked. The doctor will prescribe tests for renal function if needed.
Check to see if she has fever and also check to see if she is taking medicines to decrease fever like
tylenol. If she does not have fever despite being off drugs, then infection is less likely. Also
endometrial infection produces a foul smelling discharge. See if it is there.
Other general measures to improve her well being are use of hematinic drugs like iron and b complex vitamins. One boiled egg white every day. At least 3-4 meals per day and use of plenty of green vegetables, carrots, beet and meat and poultry products. Use of protein powder in milk may also be used if vegetarian. A light exercise helps stimulate appetite. Also B complex tablets taken an hour before meals, inclusion of soups in diet help build up an appetite. Do not include lots of fats. Let her eat whatever she likes.
I understand your concern and completely appreciate it. She will be alright as these are not uncommon issues. She may need some more antibiotics and rest.
Hope I was able to help you.
