What Is The Blood In Urine With A Kidney Stent?

I have a kidney stent in for 6 months because I still have kidney stones that haven't moved and I have a tendency to develop blood poisoning when i have kidney stents if I don't have stents. Today I saw bright blood when I cleaned up after urinating. Should I be concerned?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my surgical experience, the blood in urine can be from
- urinary tract infection
- due to calculus in the kidney
- stent related issue.

I recommend to take a urine microscopy, complete blood counts, serum creatinine examination with ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis for further management guidelines.

Thanks.
