Question: I think I have leukoplakia,, I have take HIV tests which came up negative. I saw a dentist which stated the my gums may be infected.. I also have a crown in my mouth.. Could this be the problem?
Brief Answer:
Yes, try to maintain proper hygiene.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing in.
Leukoplakia is a whitish non-scrapable lesion of oral cavity that occurs in smokers.
As per your history of infected gums indicate periodontitis.
You need to go for scaling & maintain good oral hygiene.
There might be some infection due to improper oral hygiene near crown.
Visit your dentist for proper diagnosis & treatment planning.
Do 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash once daily.
Hope I answered your query
Wishing you good health,

Thank you doctor,, the dentist did find the infection near the crown in my mouth..
Brief Answer:
Maintain proper oral hygiene
Detailed Answer:
Hi
If infection is near that tooth then get x-ray done of that tooth.
It might be due secondary caries in that tooth which might require Root Canal Treatment or it might be due to food lodgement in that area.
If required get crown replaced.
Maintain proper oral hygiene.
Wishing you good health

I looked up periodontitis, it doesn't not say that lykoplakia (whitening of the tongue) is one of the symptoms.. Can you explain more in detail...I am kind of worried.
Brief Answer:
Go for biopsy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Prriodontitis indicates swollen & inflamed gums. Its not associated with leikoplakia.
In case you still have doubt its better to go for biopsy.
