Question: What would be a safe schedule for gradual withdrawal from the drug mirtazipine in order to restore sexual function? I have been taking one 30 MG tablet for insomnia four out of seven nights per week for about two years and recently I have experienced sexual dysfunction, especially in orgasm.

Brief Answer:
Tapering withdrawal over 6 to 8 weeks. Sex therapy

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With use of mirtazapine and age related sexual functions issues are common and can be really bothersome. YOu should know that mirtazapine discontinuation will worsen your symptoms and may put your depressive illness and in relapse and give your personality a mood lability you and people around you wont like. So i want you to be very sure of discontinuing it. Next step will be to talk to your prescriber who wrote mirtazapine to you in first place and let them have a say if they agree on discontinuation of mirtazapine as withdrawal symptoms can be very bothering and discomforting.

Any how, tapering withdrawal is recommended , and over 6 to 8 weeks of tapering will help. For example, its 4 night out of 7 in a week, make it 3 for 2 weeks, 2 for 2 weeks, 1 for 2 weeks, half for 2 weeks and then stop. This way over discontinuation of 8 weeks times you will have less withdrawal symptoms.

As far as performance issues are concerned, you can request your health care provider to give you some performance aids like viagra or any other medicine. You can consult a sex therapist as well and let them help too.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
