What Causes Low BP And Raised Heart Rate While Treating Ovarian Cancer
We are in the hospital. Its night and all Dr's are gone. Nurses are clueless and wont act
Ovarian Cancer stage IV. Diag 12-2013. Beg XXXXXXX 2014, 3 cycles carbo/taxol. Then debulking. CA 125 moved from 1000 to 60. Treatment changed to doxil/avastin. Dr. Said she is platinum resistent without finishing the full 6-8 cycles of carbo/taxol before switching. Doxil/avastin no effect. Then Topetican no effect. All chemos were tolerated very well. Then last week Wednesday, Chemo was switched to docetaxel. 48 hours later she began vomiting. I took her to the emergency room at which point she continued to vomit but this time blood. She was admitted to the hospital and he immediately placed on IV to rehydrate her. Two days later the vomiting subsided and the blood one away. However, this morning her blood pressure dropped to 75/55. Heart rate was 120 bpm. The doctors just got here and placed her on a bolus IV along with a XXXXXXX All set level truck from 100 to 89. Prior to arriving at the emergency room she was very sharp cognitively. Now she is struggling to remember my name and does not know the date and many other things. I just really wanted to know what could potentially be happening here as I'm not receiving many answers.
Low B.P with raised Heart rate are signs of shock
Detailed Answer:
Hello
My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. I'm sorry that you mother is suffering that much. In condition like your mother is suffering from at the moment, decreased blood pressure with increased heart rate are signs of shock. In your mother's case it could be hypovolemic shock.
"Hypovolemic shock" occurs when there is increased blood loss from the body, resulting in decreased ability to pump blood to body organs -> causing shock. treatment is to replace the lossed blood volume in the form of whole blood or rapid normal saline infusions. When loss is compensated then condition automatically improves. Continuous urine output is monitored. If urine output becomes improved then it means patient is recovering.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
