What Causes Low Blood Pressure While Having Viral Infection?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi, I've had a virus of some sort for the past 2 weeks and am feeling better, but I just took my blood pressure and it is 80/50. Should I be concerned. The virus mostly just made me tired (sore of like when I've had walkinig pneumonia, but without the congestion), but also had a slight sore throat that came and went, headaches that came and went, and reduced memory (which I always get when I have a virus)
Brief Answer:
it raises concerns
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
low systolic blood pressures (lower than 90mmHg) may cause inadequate blood flow to certain vital organs and perhaps cause permanent damage. The kidneys for example are sensitive to low blood pressures and may be damaged. Keep in mind though that some people have low blood pressures without having any problem at all. Since the recent infection seems to be better, it's unlikely that this low blood pressure reflects worsening.
In any case assessment by a doctor is required particularly if you feel like fainting or too weak.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
