What Causes Low Blood Sugar In A 8 Year Old?

Question: 8 year old son, positive mono test, also had blood sugar level of 54, he had eaten a small breakfast and drank a soda 1 hour before blood draw, Should I be concerned about low blood sugar levels, diabetes?

The borderline sugar levels could be as a result of infectious mononucleosis which can affect liver .
Check his liver enzymes , it might be elevated.
There is no specific medicine for mononucleosis.
Mainly bed rest, acetaminophen for fever and plenty of liquids and juices.

Do monitor him closely and recheck blood sugar every 3 hours till it is more than 80.
There is no risk of diabetes. Don't worry.
