What Causes Low Creatinine Level In Body?
Question: Hi, I've tested myself for creatinine in my urine and it always comes out low - less than 10 mg/l ( .9 mmol/l ). I also have +2 protein. My specific gravity is 1.010. My gfr is 65. What does all this, especially the low urine creatinine, mean?
Brief Answer:
Inadequate sampling
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Here are the interpretations
1. Specific gravity and GFR is indicative of chronic kidney disease. Which means that there could be some amount of permanent renal damage
2. 2+ Protein means that the urine is losing more than 800 mg of urine.
3. Low urine creatinine does not imply anything, most often it is because of less than required amount of urine collected over 24 hours. No diagnosis is made on low urine creatinine, don't worry about it
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards

Hi, just on answer # 2 could you please clarify|? Thanks very much!
Brief Answer:
Protein loss
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back
The next step is to measure the protein loss. I would want you to quantify the protein loss. You will have to get a 24 hour urine protein done. This will give us the exact picture of the amount of protein you are losing based on that ace/arb tablets are added to counter it

Hi, thanks for your thoughtful answers! Just one more - my urine creatinine is now at zero. Should I worry?
Brief Answer:
Urine creat is not a good marker of renal function
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back. I suggest you to get a 24 hour urine protein and creatinine. Serum creatinine is a better marker of renal function, you need not worry about urine creatinine.
