What Causes Low Libido And Erection Problem In A 29 Year Old Man?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Apr 2016
Question: I'm 29. And drink and smoke occasionally, but I am fit because I regular the gym. I'm 6'3 230 pounds. Over the course of the past few years, my desire sexually has dropped, and find it difficult to get and maintain an erection during sex. Sometimes even masturbation. But occasionally, I will go through a spurt where I have no issues. But more often than not, it's difficult to obtain a firm erection. A couple years ago, I went to a urologist for a testosterone check and they said it came back normal. I hardly ever have morning erections. My job is somewhat stressful, as I change from night shift to day shift every two to three weeks. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Few questions

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Sorry to hear about your symptoms.
You have reduction in Libido and erection. Stress of course can cause this. Apart from testosterone, a number of other hormones need to be checked. In addition, blood glucose, and lipids have to be checked.
I have some questions.
a) How is your sleep quality?
b) Do you get early morning erections?
c) Do you snore while sleeping and feels sleepy during day times?

Would appreciate a reply,.
Regards
Binu

My sleep quality varies. Sometimes it's deep and hard but often not long enough. Other times I don't sleep well, wake up during night.

Most of the time no morning erections. Occasionally.

I think I snore sometimes because I've caught myself. And yes during day I sometimes feel sleepy at work, but I attribute that to my long work days.

Recommendations

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the reply. Anxiety, lack of sleep and snoring( and associated sleep apnea) are proven risk factors of poor erection/libido.

May I recommend following tests ( I realize that Testosterone once was okay earlier, but need to confirm again).
a) Fasting blood sugar.
b) Lipid profile.,
c) Renal profile: serum creatinine, blood urea, electrolytes.
d) Liver function tests
e) Thyroid function tests.
f) Serum prolactin
g) Serum fasting testosterone, SHBG, LH

These tests are important to further evaluate your symptoms.
