What Causes Low Platelet Count?
Question: Yes. My husband went to the doctor for a blood pressure Meds. They drew blood as usual. Blood work came back slightly low plate.et count. He had a few glasses of wine the night before and a cigar. Could that cause his platelet count to be slightly low? Along with his blood pressure med (bystolic)

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
a slightly low platelet count (more than 100,000 per microliter) can be caused by a direct effect of alcohol on platelets, but there are also a lot of other causes. If he's generally healthy then a repeat measurement after a couple of weeks would be appropriate.

Brief Answer:
I agree
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You're welcome.
I still don't know the exact number of platelets per microliter but I assume it's above 100,000. In that case, I agree with the colleagues. A repeat measurement should be done in the near future. If everything else was normal, then you shouldn't worry. Any serious problem would be very unlikely.
