What Causes Lower Abdominal Cramps During Pregnancy?
Question: Hi,
I am 5 weeks pregnant. I sometimes experience cramps in lower abdomen. My doc has prescribed Microgest 200 for insertion. But when I read the reviews online, I found mixed reviews about it. Is it safe to use it? Some websites say it can lead to abortion while others say it helps prevent abortion. Please advise
Brief Answer:
MICROGEST SHOULD BE TAKEN, REDUCES ABORTION RISK
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Microgest contains natural micronized progesterone.
In no way does it lead to an abortion.
It supports the growing pregnancy, and helps to reduce the risk of miscarraiges and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
There is no doubt that you should take it as prescribed.
When taken vaginally, it is more efficacious.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
The Internet is a great resource, with inherent shortcomings.
You can find views and opinions on everything under the sun, for and against.
What matters is real scientific evidence.
Natural micronized progesterone is given to women at risk of abortion, to reduce the symptoms such as uterine cramping, pain , spotting etc.
No conclusive studies show adverse effects on the fetus.
There is no need for progesterone testing , it is expensive, and unreliable.
Symptomatically, if a patient appears to be at risk of abortion , it is routinely supplemented worldwide.
AM attaching some links here ,these are scientific studies documenting the benefits of natural micronized progesterone -

In the world of medicine, evidence has 4 grades
Grade A or topnotch evidence is considered as scientific papers and studies.
Grade D consists of individual ' opinion ' or ' experience ' which is poorly backed by literature.
All the best.
