What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain And Flatulence?
Question: My husband has a pain about 2 inches right above his penis. The only other symptom is gas. On and off for a few days

Male/49 - not visited a Doctor - no medications - pain about 2'' right above the penis - the only other symptom is gas - on and off for 2 days ....
The commonest causes of the pain 2 inches above the penis are:
Cystitis mean inflammation of the urinary bladder
Bladder stone
Prostatitis
Local causes of the skin like a developing boil, not easily seen due to a pad of fat.
Gas does not probably cause pain above the penis; not likely. And may be caused by gastrointestinal upset.
Please provide some additional information.
- Does he have any other medical problem like diabetes or so?
- Any urinary symptom?
- Any bloating, nausea, vomiting, hard or loose stools, fever or weakness?
I would advise him the following in such a situation and depending upon detailed history and examination.
Examine locally for any tenderness or a swelling in the area of pain?
Tests of the blood for routine and diabetes
Tests of stool and urine.
Tests like ultrasonography, X-ray of abdomen depend upon the detailed history.

He has no medical conditions other than his cholesterol being a little high.No urinary probelms,(no blood present in urine) no stomach upset, no loose stool or constipation, no fever or weakness. This pain on a scale from 1-10 escalated last night to about a 7 after having hovered around a 4. Over the past week he says its gotten increasingly more frequent then last night the pain went to a 7 and stayed for two hours.
Is this something emergent that we need to go to the ER or see his regular doctor on Tuesday?
