What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain Post Tampon Insertion?
Question: Hello,
I am experiencing pain in my lower abdomen after the insertion of a tampon, that lasts until I take it out. Also, I have pain on the inside of my vagina the entire time the tampon is in. I bleed rather heavily with large clots every month. What could this mean?

Brief Answer:
From the bulging of tampon
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern but don't worry because all you describe is not so serious.
As my opinion lower abdominal and vaginal pain may be due to the bulging tampon because of increased flow of your periods, causing irritation of vaginal wall.
Hence change tampons more often.
If the lower abdominal and vaginal pain persist and after bleeding has stopped, please have a vaginal swab to exclude any infection.
All the best

Would you suggest wearing pads instead? I also have PCOS and have had 3 c-sections. Also after my first child I had a restriced hymen ring and was told not to use tampons. This condition has since resolved itself. I was dx with this is 2004. I just started using tampons again about 2 months ago. Would any of this additional information be of any concern with the pain?
Brief Answer:
Yes you should wear pads
Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
As you have had this issue and before I would recommend you to wear pads instead of tampons.
They can cause vaginal lesions predisposing you for infection.
Hence don't try anymore with tampons.
Best regards
