What Causes Lower Back And Hip Pain Along With Swollen Knee?

Question: I have lower back pain and pain in my right hip. In the past few days my right knee became swollen and I haven't been able to bend my knee. At times there is a shooting pain in the back of my thigh and in the calf. Is this a problem with my lower back or is it possibly a problem with the hip joint?

In my opinion, a combination of two conditions are causing your symptoms:

1. degenerative and/or herniated spine disease

2. knee problems such as rupture of the meniscus, ligaments, etc.

Besides getting evaluated by your Doctor about these issues, imaging studies(MRI to be specific) play an important part in achieving a correct diagnosis.

MRI of the knee and your lumbar spinal cord are necessary for this purpose.
