What Causes Lower Back Pain And Foul Urine Odor?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Question: I have been experiencing an achy lower back (on and off) for several weeks now, along with a strong odor in my urine. It almost smells like cat urine to me. I went to the doctor, who of course did a urine test. They said it had leuko-something in it, so they started me on a sulfa drug. He pressed on my lower L side of my belly, and asked me if it was tender. It was. They called a couple days ago to say my urine came back negative, so I could stop the medication. I called them back to ask what was the cause of the pain, and they stated it was probably musculoskeletal: take a couple Advil/Tylenol a day for the next week, and if it still hurts, we'll do more tests. This is NOT musculoskeletal pain. I would not have foul-smelling urine or pain when he pressed on my belly. I know I have a fatty liver based on an ultrasound that was done, and I know I do not drink enough water. I've been trying to figure out the cause, and have read it could be liver disease. I'm just wondering where do I go from here. I take Tumeric and Magnesium every day, and I am on Citalopram and Buproprion for depression. When I remember, I take Jarrow probiotics. Any recommendations?

Brief Answer:
Drink plenty of water - no other way out.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I would need to recommend you to drink plenty of water even though you know about it already. This is the most important step. You can continue to take turmeric but I do not see the requiement to take magnessium supplements or probiotics regularly. You can take curd or yourt since it contains plenty of beneficial bacteria. You need to get your blood HbA1c level checked as it indicates the overall control over blood sugar and since diabetes can be associated with fatty liver. If you drink alcohol, you would need to cut down on it.

No other specific recommendations. Do not hesitate to ask me if you need to know anyting specific.
