Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: I have a stage 4, rectum cancer metastasis liver and lymph. Just finish my chemo, will have another scan within the next 4 weeks, last one shows a lot of progress ( less lesions, less cancer, almost gone in the rectum ) but now I do experience a lower back pain since 3 weeks non stop, is there any chance it's another symptom of something coming back somewhere

Brief Answer:
I will want to say it is another symptom for now!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this cancer metastasis and the back pain that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and for now it is not clear whether this is another metastasis or not. However, I will consider this as a symptoms and in your follow up examination the doctors will pay special attention to this area to look for signs of possible disease. Also, the bone is a not a common site of spread for cancer of the colon and therefore not the most likely explanation at this time though it remains a possibility.

In all, possible symptoms and not another metastasis because bones are not a common site of spread. However, it remains a possibility though with low probability. Let the doctors manage your pain well for now and do a scan on the back area for the next scheduled control visit.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
