What Causes Lower Back Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: Hi... have lower back pain that radiates down butt cheeks ( pain in the muscles here feels incredibly tight and painful), pain then radiates down left leg the front and outer side of leg. Side of leg most painful. At night when I turn to that side... it is painful. If you gently press along side of leg seems like a nerve all the way down is very bruised. When extreme.. pain goes all the way to bottom of foot. I have been taking NSAIDS and using heat and ice packs. I am a RN... so of course... allowing time for to heal anything is a challenge. Occasional in my lower back, it feels like verterbrae moving.. which during the movement is very painful. I have also tried some back exercises..which have helped but not really relieved the problem.

Brief Answer:
Lumbar discprolapse or lumbar spondylosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you are having compressive neuropathy (sciatica). X ray and MRI of lumbar spine will be useful investigations.

First possibility is lumbar disc prolapse. There are two treatment options.First option is rest in position of relief(generally lateral position with both hip and knee bend),neurotopics such as methylcobalamin and analgesics (you are already taking). Second option is go for surgical operation(Discectomy).

Second possibility is lumbar spondylosis with compression. Back exercises, Diacerine, glucosamine sulfate, neurotropic such as methylcobalamin and analgesics (you are already taking) can give relief. It may require operative decompression if not relieved by conservative treatment.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.

I have not thought about taking B12 for it, but I will certainly give it a try! I am not familiar with Diacerine but I do have access to Glucosamine. Thank you for your assistence in this matter.

Brief Answer:
Diacerine is anti arthritic medicine

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back

After going through your query and follow up query I want to say that Diacerine is an anti arthritic medicine which prevent to some extend effect of aging on cartilages. Glucosamine to some extend repair the cartilage. I generally use diacerine along with glucosamine for their anti arthritic effect. Dose of Diacerine is 50 mg daily. No other medicine has similar to diacerine to suggest in place of it. Rest has been already discussed.
You can discuss with your Doctor about it.

Hope your query gets answered.
