What Causes Lump In The Groin Area?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Apr 2017
Question: I've had a lump in my groin on the left side, for about one month. The size goes up and down throughout the day. It feels firm when its larger and gets to be the size of a grape. Its not super painful but is tender if poked. The doctor at urgent care said it was a lymph node but I have no signs of infection. Could this actually be a hernia instead, or something else?

Brief Answer:
It could be. Get an Ultrasound done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the question.
If the Dr has examined you properly and said its not a Hernia then it is very unlikely that it is a hernia, as hernia is almost completely a clinical diagnosis. It usually does not require any investigations.
Secondly, lymph node swelling can occur without any infection also. It could also be a Lipoma(A Fat cell swelling). You could get a second opinion or get an Ultrasound done of the area to know better. If it swells up to the size of a grape then you might need a FNAC to know what is inside.
Take care and do let me know if there are other queries on this issue.
