What Causes Major Depressive Disorder After A Cortisone Injection?
Question: I have been bipolar for 33 years. I currently take both zoloft 125 mg. daily & Depakote ER 750 mg daily & am stable. I took lithium the first decade of my diagnosis & now have CKD as a result. I recently developed a trigger finger & was advised to get a cortisone injection. I suffered a major depressive episode once from a cortisone injection & oral cortisone administered simultaneously and want to prevent a reoccurence. Can I increase my zoloft And/or Depakote to prior to and right after the injection to help prevent this from occurring again?
Brief Answer:
no need of dose increment.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome here.
I can understand your concerns.
Can you please tell me, for how long did you took cortisone orally earlier?
In my opinion, a dose increment just before and after cortisone is not advisable. Because this will not prevent the occurrence of depression.
The right approach would be to increase the dose of zoloft only if you feel you are developing depressive symptoms after cortisone.
Feel free to discuss further.
Best regards.
