Brief Answer:
Can be due to progesterone deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Light periods could be due to deficient progesterone which occurs in condition called luteal phase defect. Progesterone causes thickening of the lining of uterus. It is this lining which is shed in menses and supports implantation of pregnancy.
The other cause can be- hormonal imbalance.
Please consult a gynecologist and have evaluation along the following lines -
1. Pelvic transvaginal ultrasound to evaluate the uterus and ovaries.
2. Hormonal profile - FSH, LH, TSH, Serum prolactin, adrenal hormones.
3. Complete blood count, liver and renal profile tests, glucose tolerance test.
The treatment includes starting progesterone tablets in the last 14 days of the cycle. You can discuss with a gynecologist regarding their use and get these prescribed as needed.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
