Brief Answer:
Must go in to be seen

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It's time for you to go in to be seen. My guess is that those hot flashes and sweats may be part of a fever too. Please go in to a clinic or other facility where they can examine you, and make sure they swab your throat for both a rapid strep test and a culture. The rapid strep test can be done while you wait, the culture will be sent to a lab and take 2-3 days to result.

While I tend to be cautious about using antibiotics when they are not absolutely necessary, if this is strep throat, you really do need an antibiotic to prevent complications of untreated strep.

So please do go in now, as strep throat can cause fever, chills, sweats, headaches and generalized aches and pains.

Other possibilities include influenza (although you didn't mention a cough, and it is rather early in the season for it) and mono (but you are in your 30s and likely had it as a "bad cold" when you were a teen or in your early 20s - so that is less likely too).

After you have gone in to be seen and get your culture back, please let me know how you are doing.
