Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
Thanks for writing in to us at hcm.

This is Dr.Riyanka and I am glad to be helping you with your query.

Migraine is a neurological disease which is common in school going children. There are certain factors that trigger migraine attacks like playing in extreme weather conditions, while travelling in vehicles. As your daughter s 10 years old and might be experiencing menarche, medical research shows significant increase in frequency and duration of migraine related headaches at her age.

Parents and children should keep a log book of timings of headache , recording date, description of the pain and symptoms, anything that triggers. Keep a detailed log of medication taken to relieve the pain. This will help the doctor in diagnosis and treatment.

1. In children, a sound sleep after taking analgesics usually relieves the pain.
2. Kindly identify any possible triggering factors like exposure to hot climate, any food items like chocolates, use of aerosols and any types of perfumes or room freshners.

When you visit your neurologist he/she shall conduct diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, neuroimaging, EEG to assist in diagnosing migraine.

During the migraine attacks, first line of treatment would be giving her :
1. Kindly try other non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like Acetaminophen early in the course of headache. If i was her doctor i would have given her Tab Paracetamol 500 mg and then another after 8 hours if it persists still (Do not exceed more than 3 tablets a day) .
2. if nausea is accompanied you can give her antiemetics (medications to stop vomiting sensation).
3. you can give her daily supplements of multivitamin tablets.

Lifestyle modifications
1.Eating a balanced diet without skipping meals
2.Regular exercise, and rising and going to bed at the same time every day help reduce migraine frequency and severity.

Hope this answers your query.
