What Causes Mild Diarrhea While On Amoxicillin Clavulanate For Acute Bronchitis?

Question: I am taking a 10-day regimen of Amoxicillin Clavulanate Potassium antibiotics for acute bronchitis. I am experiencing mild diarrhea. Besides yoghurt, what can I take or do to ease this side effect. I stop the meds in 2 days. FYI, I'm a healthy and fit 71 year woman.
Brief Answer:
How many liquid stools daily?
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Am so sorry to hear about thus diarrhea. I will ask a few question to understand the nature of the diarrhea and possible causes so as to provide a well thought and helpful response.
1. How many watery stools in a day? Any blood? Mucus? For how long has this been going on.
2. When did watery stools start? With first dose of Amoxiclav or several days later?
For now, drinking much water to replace any possible losses is the most important thing to do. With more information, specific information would be provided to address the diarrhea.
Keep me posted at your earliest convenience.

Answers: Watery stools started a couple of days after I began the meds. I move my bowels now about 6 times/day. Also bloated. Constant tenderness in my lower abdomen. No blood. I stop the pills tomorrow (Thursday). How long will it take for my tummy to get back to normal???
Brief Answer:
This is more of intolerance than a complication from the drugs!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
This diarrhea is more of intolerance than a complication from antibiotics seen how soon the symptoms started. The watery stools shouldn't last more than 72hours after stopping the drug.
In the meantime, much liquids will do. I may also recommend Loperamide if these stools interfere with your daily activities.
Keep me posted. I wish you well.
