What Causes Mild Memory Loss After 6 Months Of Anesthesia?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: Hi I have haemochromatosis and at the beginning of the year i had a fall off my ladder and snapped my femur in half and fractured my acetabular. I had two operations in a week to repair my femur with a femeral nail and also another operation to put a metal brace on my acetabular to correct that. I have not been able to have regular venesections to control my haemochromatosis because of my operation. I recently had a blood test and my iron level is 57 but my ferretin is only 40. Recently I have noticed signs of memory loss which I am concerned about and I have read that high iron levels can cause Alzheimers plus general anaesthetics can bring it on as well. Should I be concerned? Also should I be tested for Alzheimers?

Brief Answer:
Needs to be investigated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild memory loss even after 6 months of anaesthesia is less likely to be related to anaesthesia. It can be age related or due to haemochromatosis. It is best to consult a neurophysician and get yourself investigated properly so that the disease progression can be stopped early.
I hope this answers your query.
