What Causes Missing Periods After Stopping Depo Shots?
DETAILS ARE GIVEN BELOW.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
Depo Shot is a long acting reversible hormonal contraceptive that is injected every 3 months. It is quite effective in the prevention of unwanted pregnancy. However, it can affect regular monthly period after discontinuation and about 55% of women experience with amenorrhea. It is the PROMINENT side effect of Depo Shot.
Other underlying causes may be hormonal imbalance, stress factor, over weight, ovarian cyst/ PCOD, high prolactin level, thyroid disturbance etc. I suggest you to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan and complete hormonal profile to confirm the diagnosis. Initially, you should rule out pregnancy through home pregnancy test.
TREATMENT: Hormonal treatment is quite effective to induce and regularize your period in the form of Progesterone pill (for short duration 7-10 days) or cyclic combined hormonal pill. Kindly, consult with your GYNECOLOGIST for complete prescription following clinical examination and investigation.
In the mean time, you should take LOW carbohydrate diet, control body weight by regular physical exercise, avoid mental stress and maintain genital hygiene.
Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.
Wish your good health and take care yourself.
