What Causes Mortality In A Schizophrenia Patient?

Mostly from cardiovascular illnesses
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
The cause of mortality in patients with schizophrenia is almost similar to general population.
The most striking difference arises from the cardiovascular diseases which strike patients with schizophrenia much earlier than general population. For example if a person without schizophrenia develops heart disease by 60 years, the person with schizophrenia develops it at age of 50 years or earlier.
The second difference from general population is death due to suicide. It is estimated that the risk of death due to suicide is 30 times higher than general population and around seven percent of suicides are due to schizophrenia.
The third difference is infection as schizophrenics have high probability of tuberculosis and other infection in compare to general population.
I hope I am able to answer your question.
