What Causes Movable Lump Just Above Right Knee?
Question: Hello. I'm a 34 year old male and I just discovered a fairly small movable lump just above my right knee. It is painless and can only be felt if my leg is extended and relaxed. For the last few months I have also been experiencing some hip pain and some burning in my right quad which I'm not sure is related. I'm very active and assumed it was a bit of sciatica.
Brief Answer:
X-ray of knee and hip is recommended

The movable lump could be loose body of calcium (synovial chondramatosis) and usually is without symptoms. This may be seen on x-ray of knee. If it is causing symptoms like pain with restriction of knee movement removal is recommended.
As far as hip is considered, please tell me-
1. Range of movement at hip?
2. What makes the pain worse/better?
X-ray of hip may help. It does not looks to be sciatica as it is usually occurs back of thigh and right up to leg with numbness and tingling sensation in leg. Do you have the symptoms like this?
Please share.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. There is no pain and no restriction of my knee movement. The moveable lump is just above my kneecap and below my Vastus Medialis.
1. I still have full range of motion at my hip.
2. The pain seems to get worse when sitting for extending periods of time. Also after a very intense exercise session. I do have the sensation toward the back of my thigh also and tingling sensation in my hip, thigh and sometimes my foot.

Hello
You are welcome and it’s good to see you. After going through your reply the pain could be of sciatica. It is most commonly due to nerve compression (pinched nerve) at lower spine by slip disc.MRI is the investigation of choice to confirm beside clinical examination. You may have prescription only drug pregablin for this type of pain.
As far as knee and hip pain is concerned, x-ray is highly recommended.
Wishing you good health.
