What Causes Mucus In Stool Along With Occasional Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I am concerned about my health. I always have urges to pass wind in the mornings. I even feel pressure round my lower intestine area, but when I do, I discharge a bit of mucus around my anus. It's a wet, slimey consistency. It also has a fishy smell. Also, sometimes when I go to the toilet for a poo, this mucus is discharged at the same time. I don't feel any pain, except an itching sensation around the sphincter region. And the amount of mucus varies over time but it won't go away. Also, I suffer from diarrhoea a least twice a week, but I don't know if that's related. Please help.

Brief Answer:
FOLLOW AS ADVISED; LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION AND MEDICINE NEEDED

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
Having flatulence and mucus in stool with occasional diarrhea signifies a chronic lowgrade stomach infection or irrational food habit and if it is associated with frequent feeling of defaecation, this can also be a problem of irritable bowel syndrome. I would suggest you the following-

First of all, modify your diet. Take lots of oral fluid, Clean drinking water, more fruits and dietary fibers and less fat and junk food.
start exercise regularly. It enhances metabolism.
Avoid smoking and alcohol if any.
You can take tab normaxin 1tab twice daily for 15days. Also tab pantoprazole-levosulpiride once daily for 15days.
Reduce stress, stay calm.

You can consult your doctor for the prescription of the above.

Hope this was helpful.
