What Causes Muscle Cramps In Legs Along With Redness On Lower Legs?

Question: Two nights ago I left work because I became achy and started getting the chills (two signs I'm coming down with the flu). After a fitful night of sleep, fever and shakes I was worn out but past the worst of it. During the night I vaguely remember my right leg hurting one of the times I got up to get sick, but I was so out of it, it didn't really register.
The next morning my right calf hurt, plus I now felt a knot on my upper thigh by the groin. The main thing was that from mid calf down to my ankle the skin was all red (like a bad sunburn), swollen and tender to the touch.
I'm a 52 year old white male, smoker, 5'10, 255 lbs (trying to lose it) and have had XXXXXXX horses in the leg before. In fact, it felt like I was about to have one for a couple of weeks prior that I upped my potassium (bananas) and water intake. But I've never seen the redness and swelling before.

Brief Answer:
Peripheral vascular disease with possible venous thromboses?Needs Confirmtn
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.
I understand your query and concern.
As per your clinical history, you probably have a peripheral vascular disease which is associated with features of superficial venous thromboses.
This can cause symptoms like redness, swelling and muscle cramps.
All I advise you to quit smoking at the earliest as smoking will accelerate this disease process.
I strongly recommend you to have Duplex Ultrasonography of the involved limb.
The further treatment is largely based on the test results.
Medical management for this issue involves using drugs like Aspirin and Heparin.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
