What Causes Muscle Spasms Throughout Body, Right Ear Pain And Involuntary Movements?

default

Question: Hi. I have had a number of strange symptoms that have been developing over several years. It all started with my right leg having little muscle spasms, that were not particularly painful. Now 5 years later I have spasms that are all over my body, could last a second, it feels like electric shock running through my body. I often feel that the right side of my brain contributing to the shock distributing through the body, as I often feel pain above my right ear and burning. I get very tired from these involuntary movements. What can you advise me?

Also I find that if I stress more than I than twitches get more intense and more frequent. Yesterday I dropped an object from my hand twice because of twitching and nearly fell over because I had a spasm in my foot and for a moment lost balance.

Brief Answer:
Medications could help you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and they are suggestive of myoclonic jerks. You are on correct medication- Epilim (sodium valproate).

However, addition of medications such as levetiracetam and clonazepam would help you more.

I usually start levetiracetam (keppra) at a dose of 500 mg two times daily, and depending on the response, it can be increased to 3000 mg per day.

Clonazepam is usually given at a dose of 0.5 mg once daily at bedtime.

Since these are prescription drugs, you can get it prescribed by your doctor.

I assume that your MRI brain and EEG (electroencephalography) tests have been done and they are normal.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
