Question: hello, I am suffering from depression and anxiety, have tried citalopram, made me very sick to my stomach. It also did not help much with the anxiety. I then tried paroxetine, this helped with all but it also made me sick to my stomach, I was then put on trazadone. no sickness from this but the depression worsened. can I take the trazadone and paroxentine on alternating days to get a full effect form the both of them? (anxiety, depression, sleeplessness)

or can you recommend something for the nausea so I could take the paroxentine?

Brief Answer:
Reduce the doses to reduce nausea.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Citalopram and Paroxetine both are SSRI drugs and SSRIs are known to cause nausea, stomach upset in most individuals especially in first few weeks of therapy. If you got side effects with Citalopram and then nausea with Paroxetine then in such case best is to reduce the dose of the drug.

Starting with low doses prevents nausea, vomiting and stomach. In few weeks tolerance develops in most individuals and I hope your nausea will decrease. Taking Trazodone and Paroxetine on alternate days will not serve any purpose in my opinion so should be avoided.

For nausea you can take drugs like Ondasetrone or Domperidone. Either of these tablets should reduce the nausea. Discuss with your doctor before making any change in prescription.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
