default
Posted on Fri, 22 Sep 2017
Question: experiencing nausea within an hour after waking up. Happens once or twice a week.Starts with a queasy feeling and then lots of saliva produced. Sometimes it leads to vomiting. When I do vomit it is a small amount of what I assume is stomach acid. It burns my esophagous and my throat.About 20 minutes after vomiting,I feel fine. If I don't get sick, the feeling lasts from a half hour to an hour.

Brief Answer:
Some possible causes and advises given

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern.

Most common reason for morning nausea and vomiting is due to stomach acid reflux. In this case it is good you are watching the food and some tricks that can help are: take frequent small amount of food during the day and avoid eating within 3 hours before bed at night. Avoid fried and greasy food. Avoid acid food or junk food. Take fruit and vegetables. Omeprazole 20 mg might be taken fasting in the morning (30 minutes before food) to reduce acid.

Other reasons might be anxiety and if you feel anxious or have other symptoms of anxiety you will need to talk with your doctor and see if this is the case.

Having some tests to rule out diabetes and other disease is advised if you have not had them in the last 1-2 years: fasting sugar test, creatinine, CBC, ERS, ALT, lipids, etc.

To conclude i would say:
1. continue being watchful with the diet avoiding things you find worsen you if you can identify something and follow the advises given above on the acid reflux
2. avoid smoking and alcohol as these can make it worse
3. omeprazole 20 mg a day
4. do the routine checks mentioned above if you have not had them in the last 1-2 years.
5. if no improvement with the diet measures and omeprazole in 2 weeks you will need to see your doctor and have a visit for this to find the cause. Other causes like anxiety, chronic conditions like diabetes, kidney problems, structural problems of the stomach and oesophagus (that connects the stomach with the throat), side effects of prescription medications you use should be ruled out.

I hope this is helpful to you and answers to your questions but please feel free to contact me case more clarification is needed on this.

Kind regards,
