What Causes Nausea And Vomiting While On Thyroxine?

My wife recently got diagnosed with Thyroid. (around 45 days back). It started with swelling in her ankles and hands. Also extreme tiredness.
Based on Doctor's advise started with Thyroxine 25 mg raised to 50 mg post 15 days. Last 10 days she has been feeling nauseatic and vomits 2/3 times a day. I would like to know if this is related to thryroxine/ dosage ? Will the nausea subside on its own or should she reduce the dose to 25 mg again. The latest t3/t4/tsh is now normal - closer to lower limit. Pls advise.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thyroxine tablets are generally well tolerated by individuals unless thyroid hormone values go out of range. Nausea and vomiting are not commonly listed side effect of this tablet. You can report back to the treating doctor who will review the latest thyroid hormone reports. A change in the dose will be planned only after thyroid values are assessed. Since the TSH values are in normal limits, in my opinion these drugs may not be the cause of nausea and vomiting.
In this context, my suggest to you is visit a physician/gastroenterologist who can evaluate for other causes of nausea/vomiting. It may be an infection, ulcer or other causes. Until then please continue zofer and antacids as instructed.
Hope this helps.
Regards
