Posted on Fri, 25 Jul 2014
Question: Hi Doctor, I've used medicines based on prescription attached. However, off late I noticed that I feel nausea, anxiety, chills, sweating sensation, discomfort in stomach etc., at certain times just before I go for stool. After which, these symptoms get subsided. Are these the symptoms, w.r.t any particular issue/disease? Please advise. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Mostly IBS-related symptoms sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help.

Some of your symptoms like nausea, chills, can be a side effect of some of the medications that your doctor has prescribed, buf the other side effects like sweating, abdominal discomfort and anxiety are in fact related to the condition you have been diagnosed to have sir (i.e. irritable bowel syndrome/IBS).

In this condition, the intestine gets inflammed and irritated mostly after consuming certain trigerring factors like popcorn, chocolate, tea, coffee, alcohol, dairy products, etc; and results in symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain and disconfort, weakness, and sometimes even dehydration. In certain cases, it can even result in bleeding per anus.

I am sure you must have experienced at least half of these symptoms, which is why this triggers anxiety for you. Not knowing whether your stool is going to be normal or not is what triggers it. I would recommend a re-visit to your doctor sir, as some patients with IBS do require anti-anxiety or anti-depressants to help deal with the anxiety or depression brought about by IBS-related symptoms.

Please do not feel alarmed by my suggestion sir, I myself have been diagnosed with IBS and have experienced these symptoms. Please consult your doctor for adequate management of your symptoms sir.

I hope you find my response helpful sir. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be mofe than happy to help you.

Best wishes.
